Scope of Work
Ultimate Construction was responsible for the installation of approximately 37,000 square feet of aluminum rainscreen panels, recladding an existing structure originally constructed with insulated metal wall panels. All exterior walls were existing, making this project a true recladding retrofit rather than new construction.
Due to variations in building geometry, window elevations, and wall alignment, the scope required the procurement & installation of hundreds of unique panel sizes, each tailored to specific field conditions across the campus.

Project Highlights
Early in the project, Ultimate Construction identified the risk associated with relying solely on existing drawings for a building of this size and age. To mitigate this risk, the team took the proactive step of commissioning a full-perimeter LiDAR scan of the structure to accurately capture elevation data and verify dimensional consistency across all façades.
The scan revealed significant variations in window heights, wall planes, and building angles from one section of the campus to another – conditions that would have caused conflicts during installation if left unaddressed. Armed with this data, we were able to adjust panel sizing, confirm level reference lines, and resolve conflicts before they impacted installation. Additional challenges stemmed from the existing windows, which remained in place throughout construction and presented known performance issues. Careful detailing and sequencing were required to integrate the new rainscreen system while maintaining continuity and minimizing disruption to adjacent assemblies. Ultimate Construction’s prior experience as a certified installer of IMETCO aluminum panel systems proved critical to the project’s success. Familiarity with the product allowed the team to adapt efficiently to the unique conditions of a retrofit environment, where identical panel solutions could not be repeated from one elevation to the next.

Outcome / Results
Despite a constrained installation timeline and the complexities that come with recladding an existing structure, Ultimate Construction completed its scope successfully and in alignment with the project schedule. Proactive planning, early verification of existing conditions, and technical familiarity with the panel system allowed the team to maintain quality and consistency across all elevations.
The completed aluminum rainscreen provides a durable, modernized exterior that supports the long-term performance and functionality of the Danbury High School West Campus, contributing to an improved educational environment for students and staff alike.
